Jerry Kilmon, 75, of Clayton, IN passed away at home, surrounded by his family on Friday, December 6, 2024. He was born in Tomkinsville, Kentucky on December 1, 1949, a son of the late Harmon Kilmon and Rosa Short. In addition to his parents, Jerry is preceded in death by 7 siblings, Nelma Odle, Nina Anderson, O Jean Hunter, Cricket Johnston, Bell Short and Uerbon Mann.
Jerry grew up in Tomkinsville, Kentucky. He served our country in the United States Army, drafted during the Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged from the military, Jerry moved in with his sister, Cricket, who lived in Indianapolis. There, he began working as a carpenter framing houses. On April 21, 1973, Jerry married the young lady from his hometown, his best friend, Katy (Tade) Kilmon. Summers spent on a houseboat together at Dale Hollow Lake are cherished memories. They shared 52 beautiful years of marriage, making wonderful memories with their three devoted children and grandchildren. In 2005 Jerry retired from Rolls Royce as a Machinist after 28 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and running bird dogs in field trials with the Amo Bird Dog Club. Later, he would enjoy watching sports, and to the chagrin of his family, QVC where he’d stock up on knives and swords.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Katy Kilmon; children, Krystal (Robi) Hurst, Jeremy Kilmon and Jason Kilmon; 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; siblings, James Kilmon, Pat Kilmon, Shelia (Chris) Eaton, and Judy (David) Wiley, and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
The family will receive friends on Monday, December 9, 2024 from 4-7 p.m. at the Hazelwood Christian Church in Hazelwood, IN. A funeral service will be held at the church on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with an hour visitation prior. He will be laid to rest, with military honors in Clayton Cemetery.
