Dr. Jerry Charles Langley

Dr. Jerry Charles Langley, 74, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2024.
The son of Clyde and Evelyn Langley, he was born on November 19, 1949 and reared in Travelers Rest. Upon graduation from Travelers Rest High School, he was stationed in San Diego and served on the Admiral's Staff during his service in the United States Navy. On June 12, 1971, he married his high school sweetheart, Sandy Surett.
He graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1974 and subsequently earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree at Life Chiropractic College.
He began his chiropractic practice in 1980 and continued to treat patients until just four weeks ago. His patients remember his compassion, thoughtfulness, and genuine interest in them and their families. He felt a great responsibility to his patients and repeatedly expressed his concern for them in his final days.
Jerry loved his family, and was an uncommonly devoted father, uncle, and grandfather, lovingly known to his grandchildren as "EZ." His children's friends also adored him, and affectionately called him "Jer Bear." A tall, gentle giant, he was fun loving and playful. He had plans to volunteer in the children's ministry to spend more time with his grandchildren.
He loved to fish and treasured the many hours he spent on the water with good friends and family. The Roy Phillips Fishing Tournament was an annual highlight for him and his fishing buddies. Jerry was a jovial and loyal friend who, according to his neighbor, "loved strong." He was a big fan of Gamecock football, and loved music that had a great beat and spoke to his soul.
He is predeceased by his parents and by his beloved daughter, Brittany Langley Lawson. After her death, he sought comfort in Matthew 7:24 and the quote, "Love is how you stay alive, even after you are gone," attributed to Mitch Albom.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sandy Surett Langley; his son, Spencer Davis Langley (Kristina); four grandchildren, Surett Langley, Groves Langley, Harrison Lawson, and Hampton Lawson; his brothers, Larry Langley (Debbie) and Chris (Cynthia) Langley; brother-in-law Dr. C. David Tollison and sister-in-law Linda Tollison; and a niece and six nephews.
Jerry's family will receive friends at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18th, with a celebration of life service at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 847 Cleveland St., Greenville, SC 29601.
