March 1948- August 2025

Iron Duff Community, Jerry Edwin Messer, 77, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at Misson Hospital after a brief illness.

Jerry was the son of the late Milton Howard and Dare Rathbone Messer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wallace and Howard Messer. He served his country proudly in the Army during the Vietnam Era. Jerry worked with Dayco Corporation until their closure and retired from the NC Welcome Center. He enjoyed bear and deer hunting as well as fishing with his brothers, sons and grandsons and enjoying the quietness at the bear hunting cabin on Mt. Sterling with his brothers and friends that joined them. His favorite pastime was porch sitting with Debbie and his cat Prissy as well as any visitors that came by. He also enjoyed being in his woodworking shop making special things for his family.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 41 years, Debbie Glance Messer; four children, Veronica Messer (Mike), Scottie Messer (Kim), Lloyd Messer (Sarah) and Rob Glance (Jennifer); grandchildren, Alex Messer (Madeline), Zachary, Avery, Lanie and Samuel Messer, David and Ariel Saunders; Joshua, Addi and Klohe Glance; four brothers, Robert (Amy), Milton Junior, Winford and Clifford Messer; three sisters, Marlene Ferguson (Johnny), Sallie Louise Dennison (Jim) and Jean Messer (Tony); uncle, Ralph Messer; aunt, Gertrude Fulbright; a brother-in-Law; Dale Glance (Debbie) and sister-in-law Linda Duckett (Mike) ; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Panther Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
