Reverend Jerry E. Nicewander of North
Tazewell, VA, departed this life at the age of 89 on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at his home with his loving wife Nancy by his side.
After leading many to Christ through an example of love and care, Rev. Nicewander was summoned from his earthly house, to his mansion just over the hilltop, on the eternal streets of glory.
Rev. Nicewander was born in Red Ash, Virginia to the late Frazier and Virgie Nicewander. He was one of thirteen children. After high school, Rev. Nicewander joined the US Army in July 1955 where he served his country until April 1957. Upon separation from the Army, Rev. Nicewander met and married the love of his life, Nancy Lou Cruey on May 14, 1958. Rev. Nicewander found great enjoyment in the autobody industry and he worked for a multitude of autobody shops in the local area.
In 1963, Rev. Nicewander answered his calling to serve The Lord in Ministry work and he became an Ordained Minister for the Assembly of God church. He served as a section Presbyter of Section 5, a special force ministry for the handicap in Missouri, as well as pastoring a great multitude of churches in Virginia and West Virginia. With over 50 years in the ministry, Rev. Nicewander was an example of Christ in word and in deed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jerry Edward Nicewander, Jr.; daughter, Carolyn Christine Nicewander; sisters Merle Morgan, Virginia Colley, Margaret Boyd, Caroline Nicewander, Gaynelle Stilwell; brothers, Jesse, Holland "Shot", Jack, Joe, and Kenneth Nicewander.
