Jerry Palmquist was born to Oscar and Lois Palmquist in Erie, PA in 1943, the second of three children.
At the age of 4 with his parents and two sisters Jeanne and Janet, he moved to Oceanside, CA where his dad took the job of South Oceanside Elementary School Principal.
Jerry proceeded through South Oceanside Elementary, Jefferson Junior High and Oceanside High Schools graduating from Oceanside High School in 1961.
Following high school, he attended Oceanside Carlsbad Junior College finishing his undergraduate degree at Cal Lutheran University. Shortly after receiving his university degree, he embarked on a career with the Denver Broncos.
Once back in Oceanside, he taught at the Army Navy Academy for 2 years with an interruption serving 3 years in the U.S. Army as an officer.
After serving in the U.S. Army, he returned to teaching at the Amy Navy Academy. During that time, he attended University of San Diego earning his Masters and California Teaching Credential.
In 1974, he began his teaching career at Oceanside High School. He taught numerous subjects including student government, history and mathematics and coached football, basketball, baseball and swimming during his 31 year career at OHS.
In 1972, Jerry met and married the love of his life Mary Jane.
Jerry leaves behind his beloved wife Mary Jane, son Leif and his wife Marisa along with 3 grandchildren and sister Janet Speer.
Services are scheduled for Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in the Oceanside Performing Arts Center on the Oceanside High School campus. During Jerry's teaching career at OHS, he was selected four different times as the TEACHER OF THE YEAR by the Oceanisde High School students. No other professional educator has come close to being selected that many times in their careers at the School and it will probably continue as such for decades to come.
