Jerry Robert Timm passed away peacefully, Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Buchanan Meadows in Buchanan, Michigan at the age of 80. He is survived by his wife Pamela (Bowers) Timm of Niles; daughter Diane (Peter) Martin of LaPorte; grandsons Johnathan (Christina) Heying of Portage IN and Wesley Martin of LaPorte, and six beautiful great-grandchildren.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father Harry Timm; his mother Lois (Ruggles) Timm, and his sister Virginia (Timm) Michard.
Jerry was born in Chicago, but his family moved to Michigan City, Indiana shortly after his birth. He graduated from Michigan City High School and Ivy Tech where he earned an Associates Degree in Computer Information Systems. During the Vietnam war, Jerry served in the Army on the DMZ in South Korea where he managed the heavy equipment machine shop. He was very proud to be a veteran and maintained his American Legion membership throughout his life.
For 18 years, Jerry was Director of Facilities for Hamilton Grove, a retirement community in New Carlisle. It was there that he met Pam, and they were married in 2003. After retiring from long-term care management, Jerry and Pam pursued careers as team truck drivers, traveling the country as expediters, first for Fed Ex Custom Critical and later for Express-1 in Buchanan. Jerry was also a skilled carpenter, and he and Pam bought and renovated six houses during their marriage. It gave them great joy to convert a house that was a mess to a safe, comfortable home. Jerry had the skills; Pam was the go-fer.
Jerry's greatest passion was golf, and he was an excellent golfer. He played on a championship team in high school and was good enough that his coach encouraged him to attend PGA school. Although he was unable to do this, Jerry played competitively and socially his entire life. He loved playing scrambles and was game to try any new course he could find.
Above all, Jerry was a generous, kind, caring man who loved sharing what he knew with others, whether teaching someone to play golf, wield a hammer or drive a truck. Even when things were difficult, he kept his balance and sense of humor. His presence is so missed by those who love him.
A Celebration of Life for Jerry will be held at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home.
