Jerry Whitehurst

Jerry Flynn Whitehurst, of Gainesville, Georgia, met his Lord and Savior on November 7, 2025. Born in Robersonville, North Carolina, Jerry was the son of the late Vance and Hilda Whitehurst.
Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Following his service, he worked for Delta Air Lines for 29 years in the Flight Training Department. His lifelong love of aviation was evident to all who knew him. Jerry owned his own plane, a 1946 Swift, which he brought home to refurbish. Even after his career at Delta, he never settled into retirement. Instead, Jerry began a second career as a Real Estate Broker and Land Agent, continuing to stay active and engaged in the community.
Jerry was a man who could fix anything and was never far from a home improvement project or two. No matter the size of the job, he was eager to lend his skill, time, and heart. His kindness was quiet but steady, expressed most clearly in his willingness to help anyone who needed him.
Jerry is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Reba Whitehurst; his son, Flynn Whitehurst of Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia; his daughter, Caroline Mullikin and her husband, Cary, of Easley, South Carolina; his grandson, Lieutenant Carter Mullikin and his wife, Alyssa, of Pensacola, Florida; and his granddaughter, Caitie Mullikin of Gainesville, Georgia. He is also survived by his brother, Donnie Whitehurst and wife, Jean, of Tarboro, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Louann Brown of Lovejoy, Ga; nieces Shannon Riggs (Aaron), Donnel of Tarboro, North Carolina and Audrey Woods (Roger) of Pike County, Ga; and nephews Josh and Jacob Brown of Love Joy, GA along with extended family and cousins who dearly loved him.
A memorial service will be held November 24, 2025 with visitation from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm and service at 12:00 pm in the chapel of McDonald & Son Funeral Home in Cumming, Ga. Following the service the family will travel to Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Ga for the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jerry's name to the March of Dimes. Donations can be made online to marchofdimes.org. (When Jerry was in elementary school, the local newspaper published a story of him secretly not eating lunch so he could save his lunch money and give to the March of Dimes. )
