Bar Harbor
Beloved husband, Father, Coach Jesse Nathan MacDonnell left his loved ones behind on January 31, 2024. Jesse leaves a huge hole in our community and many hearts. The people of MDI have wrapped his wife Heidi Hambrecht MacDonnell and sons Isaac and Eli MacDonnell tightly in their arms while we collectively mourn the loss of a wonderful man. Jesse was born in January 4, 1976 Bangor, to Linda (Nietz) & Michael MacDonnell. Jesse was the older brother to Michael "Mikey" and Ian MacDonnell.
In this world there are certain humans that calm you by their presence. These humans are special and rare. Somehow, they feel like a safe place to retreat for a moment just by being. Jesse was one of these people. He was the calm in the storm. A true North to those that knew and loved him. Jesse always showed up when needed. He brought his sharp mind, dry wit, and can do attitude to everything he did and every human that met him was better for knowing him.
Through the years these qualities drew many people to him, including his future wife, Heidi. Over the last 20 years they built a beautiful life filled with love, children, and lifelong friendships. Along the way Jesse showed up in many roles. husband, father, master carpenter, friend, grandson, son, brother, uncle. But one of his favorite roles was coach. It combined all the things he loved: his sons, Heidi, and sports. Jesse coached basketball, baseball, and football. His talent as a coach was quantified best by Acadia Youth Sports- Jesse was "a mentor, leader, and friend. Jesse dedicated countless hours shaping the lives of our young MDI athletes, instilling values of teamwork, discipline, and resilience. His passion for the game and commitment to AYS through mentorship and coaching will be forever etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing you."
Jesse will be missed in a deep and abiding manner by his loved ones. He leaves behind his wife, the love they shared is a once in a lifetime kind of love, Jesse was Heidi's person her best friend, children, Isaac and Eli that he loved so deeply and lived every day to make them happy and healthy kids, parents, brother, many nephews and nieces, and best friends Rob Brown and Scott Davis, and many more that are too numerous to list. Jesse was predeceased by his brother Ian and grandmother Marjorie Monteleon.
Please join us and show support to his family at the American Legion Hall at 22 Village Green Way Southwest Harbor, Maine on February 10 at 2 pm for a remembrance potluck. Bring a dish, bring a dessert, or just yourselves and we will share stories, eat comfort food, and comfort each other.
In lieu of flowers the family asks you to donate to Acadian Youth Sports c/o Tony McKim, P O Box 656, Bar Harbor 04609 or a local charity of your choice.
