Mr. Jesse K. Saunders, age 91, of Wilmington Delaware and formerly of Waterford, Connecticut passed away quietly on Sunday, November 24, 2024 at Shipley Living, Wilmington Delaware.
Born in Bryn Mawr, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania; a son of Emery and Hattie Russell Saunders. He went to Radnor High School, Class of 1952.
He was a Korea veteran of the United States Army where he served as a Corporal and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal and the Army Good Conduct Medal.
Jesse had attended Temple University with a concentration in Engineering and drafting. He was a former member, deacon, and youth leader of the First Baptist Church of Waterford, CT. He was a previous member of the Bible Baptist Church on Darley Road, Wilmington.
Jesse was a football star at Radnor high school, he enjoyed all types of sports, especially his sons teams, the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Philadelphia Phillies. He loved spending time with his family, taking them on multiple family vacations all over the country.
Prior to retirement, he was the Senior Ship Supervisor at Electric Boat of General Dynamics in Groton, CT.
In addition to his late parents, Jesse was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bernarda Liwanag Cabazares Saunders who passed away in July 2008; his brothers Alonzo, Bubbie, and his sisters Dora, Claire, Margie and Viola and his great aunt Mattie Saunders and his uncle Arthur Saunders. He is survived by his sons, Dwayne Saunders, Gayle Saunders and Craig Wilson; his only granddaughter, Carla Brown; his sister in laws, Cynthia Cabazares and Virginia Grayon; and a host of his loving nephews and nieces and relatives and friends.
Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at the Iron Hill Fellowship, 801 Darley Road, Wilmington, Delaware 19810 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Funeral service begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow the service in procession to Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Bear, Delaware where military honors will be presented promptly at 2:00 p.m.
The family requests memorial contributions in lieu of flowers be made in Jesse's honor to the Alzheimer's Association, the Delaware Valley Chapter by visiting www. alz.org/delval.
