Jessie Lou (Gregory) Riffle of Dalton, Ohio, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Danbury Senior Living in Wooster, Ohio.
Jessie was born to Omer A. and Georgia (Prince) Gregory in Heaters, West Virginia. She graduated from Burnsville High School in 1948 and married Gerald Lane Riffle on July 3, 1948.
She was a hard worker her entire life. When they moved to the Dalton area, she and her husband, Lane, owned a berry farm. While Lane worked construction all day, Jessie managed the farm. She raised strawberries, black raspberries, blueberries, cherries, and chestnuts and supplied many local markets with fresh berries.
After Jan and Judy left home, Jessie became a realtor. She loved working with the public.
In the winter, Jessie spent a few months with her winter friends in Haines City, Florida, where she was known as the self-appointed "mayor" of Central RV Park. She was also their "Mrs. Santa" during Christmas as well as leading the daily exercise class and a member of their competitive shuffleboard team. She felt right at home at Central Park with her "winter family".
Jessie accepted Christ as her savior and was baptized at age 11. While in the Dalton area, she attended Cornerstone Community Church and Living Water Church.
In addition to her parents, Jessie was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald "Lane" Riffle, and her granddaughter, Stacey (Dickson) Walker, 9 brothers and sisters: Lona Davis, Moody Gregory, Bea Gregory, Bob Gregory, Gladys Dennison, Pearl Dennison, Doris McCord, Chet Roupe, and Edith Amos and her special longtime friend, Gerry Martel.
She is survived by her daughters Judy Dickson (Dave) of Surfside Beach, Texas, and Jan Hilty (Leon) of Kidron, Ohio; three grandchildren, Dana Hilty (Amy), Drew Hilty (Rebekah), and Denaye Beckler (Chad); eight great-grandchildren, Christian Hilty (Britney), Colby Hilty (Beth), Kaden Hilty, Elena Hilty, Brooklynn Hilty, Anaya Beckler, Hailey Motl (James), and Cole Walker; 3 great great-grandchildren : Eli, Camden, and Ariyah Hilty and many nieces and nephews as well as several foster children that she and Lane raised over the years.
Services will be on Tuesday, 11:00 AM at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home in Wooster with Pastor Randy Moomaw officiating followed by interment at Sherwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Wooster.
