Jessie Garland Woody

Jessie Rose Garland Woody, age 83, of Bakersville went to Heaven to be with her Lord on Tuesday, November 5th, 2025, at her home. She was born on January 15th, 1942 and was a native of Mitchell County. She was a daughter of the late Merritt and Melissa Tuskie Gardner Garland. She was also preceded in death by her cherished husband of 54 years, Charles Woody; brothers: Bruce, Marshall, Claude Garland and Deward Gardner; sisters: Anna Willis, Gerrell Clark and Ruby Birchfield.
Jessie was a dedicated member of The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ where she served in many different roles in the church over the years. She was fond of going to events at the Mitchell County Senior Center and loved participating in the activities they held there. Jessie was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. She retired from her role as cafeteria worker and manager from the Mitchell County school system after 25 years.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Tony Woody, Tonya McKinney and husband Russell and Tina Pressley and husband Ben; brother, Guy Garland; sister, Eloise Staubitz; grandchildren: Chasity Woody and husband Robert, Chase Woody, Ryan McKinney and wife Katie, Royce McKinney, Cari Chance and husband Austin and Jonathan Pressley; great-grandchildren: Calie and Aria Woody, Ranger McKinney and Walker Chance.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 11th, 2025 at 3 p.m. at The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. Rev. Jeff Jaynes, Rev. Russell McKinney and Rev. G.B. Garland will be officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church. A private burial will be in the Fork Mountain Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery on Wednesday, November 12th. Pallbearers will be Ryan and Royce McKinney, Jonathan Pressley, Chase Woody, Robert Woody, Austin Chance, Luke Yelton, Jacob and Adam Gortney.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Hospice and Home Care of the Blue Ridge for the compassionate care given to both Jessie and her family in her final days.
