Jewell Ann (Hurd) Thomas, 72, of Battle Creek, Michigan, a beloved mother, grandma, sister, aunt, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, September 27th, 2025, at the age of 72, at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital. Jewell's warmth, vibrant spirit, and infectious sense of humor will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
Born on October 29th, 1952, in the beautiful town of Moss Point, Mississippi, Jewell was the loving daughter of the late David Hurd and Bessie Taylor. She carried the grace and resilience of her southern roots throughout her life, which she spent primarily as a proud resident of Battle Creek, Michigan.
Jewell's greatest joy and most enduring legacy was her family. She was a devoted mother and a fiercely loving Grandma, whose house was the heart of every gathering. She instilled in her children and grandchildren the values of honor, humor, and unconditional love.
She is survived by her loving children: her son, Clarence Thomas Jr. (TJ) of Atlanta, Georgia, and her daughter, Kimberly Ruby Ann Thomas of Battle Creek, Michigan. Jewell was a devoted Grandma to her precious grandchildren: Kay'dence, Johlahn, Taja, Kamrielle, Layla, and Clarence Juelz (CJ). She also leaves behind a host of beloved brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews, all of whom will forever cherish the memory of her generosity and light. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, David Hurd and Bessie Taylor.
Jewell's commitment to service was unwavering. She was a full military veteran who served her country honorably in the United States Army, with tours that took her to bases all over the world. Following her active duty, she transitioned her patriotism into a dedicated civilian career, serving the federal government for over 40 years before her well-deserved retirement.
Jewell served as a dedicated supply cataloger for the Warfighter at the Hart-Dole-Inouye Federal Center in Battle Creek. Her meticulous and tireless work ensured that our troops had the critical resources and supplies they needed to perform their duties safely. Her career was not just a job; it was a continuation of her deep-seated commitment to supporting the men and women of the United States Armed Forces.
Jewell embraced life to the fullest. She had a passion for joy and loved to share it with others, often enjoying music, dancing, and traveling. She also treasured going to the movies and celebrating holidays with family. She was a respected and valued member of the community, known for her charitable heart, unwavering honor, and a great sense of humor that could instantly lift the spirits of everyone around her.
Jewell Ann Thomas was a radiant force of love, laughter, and light. Her memory will be a blessing, a guide, and a source of strength for her family and friends for years to come.
