James "Jim" Edward Bowman Jr., 81, of Chattanooga, passed away Friday, December 5, 2025.

He was a loving father who lived a life defined by hard work. Jim was a U.S. Navy veteran. He loved woodworking and could often be found in his shop crafting something by hand. He also had a passion for trucks and classic cars, spending countless weekends working under the hood or attending car shows. In earlier years, Jim was an enthusiastic square dancer, bringing energy and laughter wherever he went.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Penny Bowman, and his parents, James and Margie Bowman Sr.

He is survived by his daughters, Jimmie Johnson (Robby) and Margie "Misty" Phillips (Tim); step-daughters, Anita Patton (Carl) and Jananda Smith
(Clint); step-sons, Buddy Kitchings (Nicole) and Kenny Franklin (Cathy); as well as several beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his companion, Joyce Coulter, and her family, who held a special place in his heart.

Jim will be remembered for his warmth, his generosity, and the way he could make a room brighter simply by being in it. His legacy lives on in the family he loved and the many people whose lives he touched.

Visitation is 4:00-8: pm Wednesday and 12:00-2:00 pm Thursday at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace. Service will be 2:00 pm Thursday in the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Chattanooga Memorial Park.
