Jim went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at age 75 on Friday, May 23, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on March 12, 1950 to Clifford and F. Maxine (Reese) Cooley in Lansing, Michigan.
His life was a testament to his faith in the Lord and his devotion to his family.
He worked at McLaren Healthcare as a Respiratory Therapist and Polysomnographer retiring in 2016. Jim was an avid photographer, a cycling enthusiast, a hunter, a Master Gardener, and a skilled woodworker. He always led by example, treating people equally and with kindness. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and he will be missed dearly by all who were fortunate to have known him.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Kathy Cooley; their children, Sarah (Andrew) Luce, Caleb (Suban Nur) Cooley, Joash (Kevin Cabaniss) Cooley; grandchildren, Aubrey Luce, Hollis Luce, Kitrell Luce, Justus Luce, Abyan Cooley; brothers, Robert (Rosemary Johnson) Cooley, Arthur Cooley; twin-sister, Carolyn (Kerry) Darling; sister, Shirley Hoover as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, sister-in-law, Connie Cooley and brother-in-law, David Hoover.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2025 at Trinity Church, 3355 Dunckel Road, Lansing, Michigan, 48911 with a luncheon to immediately follow. Dear Kathy, You are in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. We know that Jim is in the presence of Jesus, but there is an empty space left here on earth which he filled so well. We first met Jim through his serving with the International ministry at Trinity Church, Go>Connect. He, Ross and Terry served so faithfully at keeping the Marigold house in good shape. They all loved working together, enjoying the jobs they were doing and also enjoying the fellowship together. On behalf of Jim and I as well as Go>Connect we express our deep appreciation for the life and service of Jim and yourself! Kathy and family,
We are so sorry to hear of Jim´s passing. In all the years we´ve known Jim he has been a great and caring person to all who knew him. We feel blessed to have known him. He will be greatly missed on earth, but we rejoice that he has received a warm welcome and great reward in heaven. May God carry you through these difficult times.
