Jimmy N. Katz, husband of Sherry Katz, passed away peacefully in his home on June 1, 2024. Jim was born in Rockingham, NC, to the late Laura and Bill Katz.
Jim is survived his wife, Sherry; brothers, Mike and Joe Katz; daughter, Mitzi Smith; son, Richard Michael Kent; stepdaughters, Debbie Barnes, Julie Sanders; stepsons, Todd and Chad Lamar, and stepdaughter, Paige Knapper; grandchildren, Jason and Phillip Dancy, Barry White, Julie Dee Sanders.
In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his first wife, Dee Katz; brother, Pete Katz; son, David Katz.
Jim served in the US Army; after completing Officers Candidate School, he was promoted to Lieutenant and was a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. Jim was a member of the Boy Scouts of America for many years. He was one of the first Eagle Scouts in Rockingham, NC. He credited the Scouts with much of the training he learned and used throughout his life.
He retired after 20 years of service from the Square D Company, where he worked as a buyer. After retirement, Jim worked at the Richland County Sheriff's Department in the Handicap Parking Enforcement Division. Jim and Sherry enjoyed riding their motorcycle with friends to the Blue Ridge Mountains and camping out at the motorcycle campground in Stecoah, NC.
A memorial service for Jimmy Katz will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at Shandon Baptist Church, 5250 Forest Drive, Columbia, SC 29206. The guestbook can be signed at www.afterall.com.
