Mr. James Rhea "Jim" Slatten, age 70, of Rock Island, Tennessee and a native of Sparta, White County, Tennessee was born on December 23, 1953 and passed away on Saturday morning, February 24, 2024.
Jim joined Alpha Gamm Rho while attending University of Tennessee and made many lifelong friends. After graduating from UT in 1976, with a degree in Ornamental Landscaping, Jim moved to Rock Island and established Jim Slatten Nursery. He was a fourth generation Nurseryman, the Great-Grandson of Jonathan Henry Harrison Boyd, and Grandson of James "Jim" Reed Boyd, the original founder of Forest Nursery Company. Jim was a life-long Lady Vols basketball fan, outdoorsman, and cook.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, William "Wade" Slatten, Jr. and Mildred Marie Boyd Slatten; and, his Brother, William "Bill" Wade Slatten, III.
He is survived by his son, William "Wade" Slatten, IV; his Sister-In-Law, Martha Sue Williford; his Niece and her Husband, Holly Slatten Wallace and Randy Wallace; and, his Great-Nephew and Great-Niece, Tripp Wallace and Maggie Wallace.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the White County Football Team in care of Hunter Funeral Home, PO Box 90, Sparta, TN 38583
In honor of Jim's wishes, Hunter Funeral Home has been entrusted with his cremation and a memorial service to be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2024 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. The family will also receive visitation on Saturday, March 16, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
