A Catholic Funeral Service will be celebrated on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at 10:30 am at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette for Jimmie 'Jim' Ortego, 89, who passed away Friday, March 28, 2025, at Ochsner Lafayette General Hospital in Lafayette.

Entombment will follow at Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette.
Father Kenneth Domingue, Pastor of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Leonville, LA will officiate.
Jim was born December 22, 1935, in Vidrine, LA and was a long-time resident of Acadiana. He was a hardware salesman, on the road, for approximately forty years and later became a security guard until he retired. Jim attended St. Edmond Roman Catholic Church in Lafayette and was a man that believed in God who said his rosary daily until his passing.
Jim enjoyed his work and meeting people; he never met a stranger. He was an avid traveler and was on the road peddling his goods until he could no longer drive. Jim and Jane loved visiting the kids and also going to casinos. He took pleasure in spending time with family and friends.
Jim is survived by his two sons, J. Dana Ortego and his wife, Debbie, of Houma, LA and Jody Keith Ortego, of Lafayette, LA; his first cousin, Versie Soileau, of Ville Platte, LA; his five grandchildren, Matthew Ortego and his wife, Kelly, of Houma, LA, Michael Ortego and his wife, Megan, of Houma, LA, Anna Catherine Ortego, of Houma, LA, Cody Ortego, of Berwick, LA and Adam Ortego, of St. Louis, MO; his four great-grandchildren, Emerson Jane, Leighton, Parker, and Clair Catherine Ortego, all of Houma, LA.
Jim is preceded in death by his loving wife, Jane Bertrand Ortego and his parents, Joseph and Melda Ortego.
Honored to serve as Pallbearers are Dana, Jody, Matthew, Michael, Cody and Adam Ortego.
The family wishes to thank Father Paul, Dr. Hordish, Dr. Lawrence and other staff in the Emergency Room; nurses, Brennen and Baleigh and Social Worker, Molly, from Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center; all of the Staff at Magnolia Estates Nursing Home, where he resided at the time of his passing, for the compassionate care given to Jim and his family.
A special thanks to Judy Garber and neighbor, Brian Wade for their support, love and assistance over the past few months with Dad and the family. You made Dad's life and our lives so much easier, God Bless.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jim's name to any charity of your choice.
