Jimmie L. Shrake, 96, of Mooresville, passed away Sunday, October 8, 2023, at Independence Village Avon. He was born on September 24, 1927, in Mooresville to the late Murrell Oneamal and Mary Vannice (Poe) Shrake. Jimmie played on the Mooresville High School basketball team that went to the semi-finals in 1944, and he graduated in 1945. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1946. Jimmie married Gladys Mae (Elliot) Shrake on January 14, 1949, and she preceded him in death in 2013.
Jimmie worked as a production control analyst for 40 years and retired from Allison’s – GM in 1988. Gladys and Jimmie were founders of Grace Missionary Church in Mooresville, now known as Grace Church. He was an active member of Mt. Gilead Church for over 20 years and was very influential in the mission’s program. He also enjoyed attending bible study regularly. In his free time, Jimmie loved working in his garden. After retirement, he and Gladys bought a home in Haines City, Florida where they lived half of the year.
In addition to his parents and wife, Jimmie is preceded in death by his two brothers, Eugene and Donald Shrake. Survivors include his children, Doug (Becky) Shrake and Jama Shrake Scott; grandchildren, Amy (David) Cooney, Nick (Stephanie) Shrake, Andrea Eckler, Jimey (Kristi) Hightshue, and Luke (Julie) Hightshue; as well as several great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will gather for Jimmie’s visitation on Sunday, October 15th from 4-7pm at Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. Additional visitation will be held on Monday, October 16th from 10am until the services starting at 11am at Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory. Burial will follow the services in White Lick Cemetery, Mooresville with military honors performed.
