AHOSKIE, NC - Jimmy Curtis Ambrose, age 83, departed this life peacefully on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at his home in Ahoskie, Hertford County, North Carolina, surrounded by the love of his devoted family. Born on July 20, 1942, in the community of Merry Hill, Bertie County, North Carolina, he was a cherished son of the late Phillip S. Ambrose and Virginia Dare Williams Ambrose.
A dedicated and hardworking man, Mr. Ambrose spent his career in maintenance, working on natural gas lines. Even after retirement, his strong work ethic endured as he drove the propane gas truck for Jernigan Oil for several years. His hands were never idle, and he took great pleasure in tinkering and maintaining his garden.
Mr. Ambrose was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was known for his fondness for socializing. He relished conversations with friends, often at his favorite restaurant, Claudine's. Many will remember him fondly as "Grandda," a beloved grandfather who valued family above all else. Whether cooking a pig for a family gathering or cheering at a grandchild's ballgame.
Preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Carl Junior Ambrose, Mildred Austin, Jane Roberts, and Bobby Ambrose, as well as his cherished canine companion Sadie Mae, Jimmy is survived by his loving wife, Linda Faye Ambrose, who shared the bonds of marriage and family life with him. He leaves behind a legacy in his daughters, Pam Wester and husband John of Eure, and Missy Castelow and husband Tommy of Cofield. He was the treasured grandda of Jonathan Wester (Madison Jones), Tyler Johnson (Anthony), and Taylor Cowan (Tommy). His memory will continue to be honored by his great-grandchildren, Peyton Wester, Everly Wester, Raelynne Johnson, Casen Johnson, Haiden Cowan, and soon-to-be Hallie Cowan. Remi and Piper, his surviving furry companions, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends, mourn his passing and cherish the memories they hold dear.
The family of Mr. Ambrose will receive friends on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service in Ahoskie, and at other times at the family home. A celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Aulander, North Carolina. Pastor Greg Hurdle will officiate the ceremony. He will be laid to rest at Highland Memorial Gardens in Ahoskie. Pallbearers honoring him include Brad Ambrose, Raymond Castelow, Robert Creech, Ernie Hoggard, David Myers, and Sammy Myers.
