Jimmy Lee Blackburn, 79, of Idalou, Texas peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his family on Friday, August 16, 2024. He was born October 1, 1944, in Seymore, Texas and was a 1963 graduate of Happy High School. Jimmy served in the Army National Guard from 1965 until he was discharged in 1971. Jimmy married Judy Karr, the love of his life on October 27, 1968. They spent 56 years together raising three children and experiencing many adventures throughout their marriage. He was a resident of the Idalou, Texas community since 1969.
Jimmy, cowboy at heart, loved the rodeo and horse racing. Sharing this passion with Judy, together they trained and raced quarter horses for many years. He especially enjoyed twirling around the dance floor with Judy. Jimmy was passionate about supporting his kids and grandkids in all their endeavors and successes and really enjoyed attending their sporting events and stock shows. Even though he was a quiet man, he reveled in being a house full of family, laughter and love.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judy Blackburn; son Monte Blackburn and wife Ronda of Idalou; daughter Dee Anne Bentancourt and husband Joe of Meadow, Texas; and son Micky Blackburn and wife Kim of Rhome, Texas; seven grandchildren: Baleigh and Brady Blackburn; Ashton, Addisen, and Autumn Bentancourt; and Ava and Jett Blackburn. He is also survived by a sister, Charlene Cole and husband Fred of Amarillo, Texas along with several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Authur and Gladys Blackburn and brothers Bill, Gary and Gerald Blackburn.
A memorial service will be conducted at the Idalou Methodist Church on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at 10:30am.
The family extends gratitude to Hospice of the South Plains who provided compassionate care during Jimmy's final days.
