Idalou - Harold Dean Rogers, age 94, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2025 in Lubbock. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Idalou with Pastor Chris Riley officiating at 1:30PM, on Saturday, April 12, 2025. Private family interment will be held at Idalou Cemetery under the direction of the Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Idalou.
Harold Dean Rogers peacefully passed from this world on April 5, 2025 at the age of 94 surrounded by his family. He was born on January 30, 1931 in Panhandle, Texas to William Harvey and Lula Ann Rogers.
The family moved to Idalou in 1934 to begin the Rogers family farm. He attended 12 years at Idalou High School graduating in 1949. He loved playing football and tennis for the Wildcats.
He met Velma Briggs in the summer of 1953 at the Spare-Rib drive-in and they married January 10, 1954. He was then drafted into the US Army in 1955 where he served from 1955-57.
After serving, he returned to Idalou where he farmed for over 30 years. He then began employment at Becknell Wholesale in Lubbock where he worked 18 years before retiring.
He was very active in the Idalou community serving in many capacities. Idalou Jaycees, Idalou Lions Club, Wildcat Booster Club, served on the Idalou City Council for 8 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church for 91 years where he served as RA Leader, church usher, and general officer for many years. He loved attending Red Raider sports especially the Lady Raiders. One of the highlights of his life was getting to go on the South Plains Honor Flight with his son Jeff as his guardian in 2018.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 10 older siblings. Harold is survived by his wife, Velma of 71 years. He was blessed with two children: Connie Rogers Jones (Mark), and Jeff Rogers (Lois) who were both graduates of Texas Tech University which was one of his proudest accomplishments. He believed his grandchildren and great grandchildren were the BEST!!
Grandchildren are Matthew (Shawna), Ashley (Jason), Garrett (Kayla),and J.C. (Caroline).
Great grandchildren are Emma, Sadie, Ruby, Glenda, and Stetson.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Harold's caregivers, Calvert Hospice of Lubbock, Mackinzie Court of Lubbock, and especially Yerius Walker.
Visitation will be Friday April 11, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Moore Rose Funeral Home 701 Main Street Idalou, Texas. A celebration of life will be Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 1:30 PM at the First Baptist Church 102 East 7th Idalou Texas. Following the service, the family will greet guests in the fellowship hall.
