Mr. Jimmy Roger Combs, age 75, of Elkin, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, July 4, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. His family, a source of strength and love, was always by his side. He was born in Surry County to the late Billy and Mary Bryant Combs.
Jimmy, a member of Union Hill Baptist Church, was a man who cherished his family and his community. His love for his family was evident in the time he spent with them, and his caring nature extended to his community. For 30 years, he served with the Elkin Fire Department, always ready to help others. His kindness and strong faith were known to all who crossed his path.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of many years, Zanna Rose Cheek Combs; his brother, Harold Combs; and his sister, Brenda Pardue.
He is survived by his son, Jimmy Combs Jr. (Haley); daughter, Misty Combs; brothers, Wayne Combs and Dwayne Combs (Judy); sister, Linda Bullins (Joe), step-daughter Charly Marshall; grandchildren, Trey Walters (Mikhala), Kimberly Vannoy (Justin), Brandon Combs (Whitney), Reyna Combs, Delaney Combs, and Gabby Combs; great-grandchildren, Isaiah Vannoy, Jackson Combs, Kate Combs, and Nora Combs; and numerous nieces and nephews who brought him great joy.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel, with Rev. Greg Simmons and Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. Burial will follow at State Road Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted.
