James Authur Pollard (Jimmy, Chilly) passed away December 16, 2025 from lung cancer caused by Agent Orange exposure in Vietnam. His loving wife, Darlene, was by his side.
No services are scheduled at this time, all cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral and Cremation Services.
Jim was born September 19, 1948, in
Kemmerer, WY to Dick and Violet (Harris) Pollard. He spent his young years in Frontier, WY, fishing, swimming in the Hamsfork River, causing mischief, and playing in the mountains and valleys of Wyoming. When Jim was 12, his family moved to Kemmerer and had indoor plumbing for the very first time. Jim graduated from Kemmerer High School in 1967. He then joined the United States Army serving with Company D, 2nd /327th of the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles (NFS) for his country in Vietnam from 1968-1969. There, Jim earned many accommodations, including a Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
When Jim returned home, he married Jan Carringer in May, 1970. They had 2 children, Dale and Shanan. They later divorced. Jim spent 37 years with Utah Power and Light/Pacificorp. In his time at Naughton plant, he worked up from Skilled Helper to Journeyman Electrician to Electrical Supervisor. Two broken legs (and a resulting waddle) on the job earned him the nickname of Chilly, which stuck with him for over 50 years. He finished out his career with PacifiCorp as Planning/Maintenance Manager of the Wyodak plant in
Gillette, WY.
He served many years with the South Lincoln County Search and Rescue and as Commander was instrumental in the updating of equipment and training for these public servants. His influence in the Kemmerer community in Sand;R, Hug-A-Tree, youth sports and community events shaped many of the kids of the 80's and 90's. In 1998, Jim married his best friend and love of his life, Darlene. They made their home across Wyoming, in Kemmerer, Gillette, and Farson. It was here that he and Darlene welcomed Sandra Hoffman/Johnson to their family. In 2020, they ultimately settled in
Marlow, OK, to be closer with their Bearce family and bask in the warmer weather. Jim loved spending his time "up country" and with his 8 grandchildren (Bailey, Rory, Hattie, Ruby, Caden, Ashlyn, Cooper, and Cora) who loved their Baka/Papa Chilly with all their hearts.
Jim is survived by his wife, Darlene, children Dale (Tori) Pollard of Plain City, UT, Shanan (Patrick) Hall of Preston, ID, and Sandra (Daniel) Johnson of Rock Springs, WY, and his Oklahoma family: Brian and Deborah Bearce, Jesse (Lauren, Maverick, Walker) Bearce, Bailey (Brayden, Amelia, Laikyn) Sanders, and Troy Patterson. He is also survived by his siblings, Jeanie (Steve) Gray, Corky (Georgetta) Pollard, and Dixie Julian, all of Kemmerer.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to Elara Caring Hospice who helped care for Jim, especially his nurse, Nicole. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
