JLynn Schellack, 97, of Bartlesville, died Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at the St. Simeon's Senior Community in Tulsa, OK.
JLynn was born the son of John Alfred and Greta Marie (Walthall) Schellack on August 8, 1926, in
Bartlesville, OK. He was raised in the area and graduated from Dewey High School. When the Army Air Force sent him to the Philippines during WWII, his farm background served him well. Mechanically inclined, he was well suited to his job as an aircraft mechanic. Accustomed to scavenging parts and "jury-rigging" equipment, with the Schellack ability to "fly under the radar" when necessary, it is no surprise that when he was transferred to the supply office, he was able to build his own jeep from spare parts. Lacking the rank and authority for possessing the jeep, he kept it "under wraps" in the laundry when he wasn't using it. Upon being honorably discharged, he returned home to further his education at Oklahoma State College, where he met his future wife, Deane Herriage. They married on November 8, 1948. The couple raised two children, Vickie and Rod. JLynn worked until his retirement for Phillips Petroleum Company, but being an energetic, opportunistic entrepreneur, he always had multiple side ventures with cattle, classic cars, oil leases, sundry equipment and in fact, would ask what you were doing between two and four in the morning if YOUR life seemed just too busy.
As committed Christians, Lynn and Deane and their children were active in their church and lay missions. Lynn was part of a team that drilled water wells in Haiti, facilitating the creation of Radio 4VEH, a radio broadcast dedicated to presenting the gospel to the Haitian people.
After 63 years of marriage, JLynn was preceded in death by his sweetheart, Deane, on January 30, 2011. JLynn's passing marks the end of an era in the Schellack family, but anticipates a joyous family reunion "When We All Get To Heaven." He is survived by his children, Vickie (Robert) Quilliams, and Rod (Nancy) Schellack; grandchildren, Dustin Moore, Carrie (Jason) Hawkins, Heidi (Brian) Wyrosdick, Andy (Adelaide) Quilliams, Jake (Amanda) Schellack, and Luke (Aleksandra) Schellack; great-grandchildren, Gabe, Josh, Mari, Bailey, Toby, Piper, Andy, and Sebastian; and a host of other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brothers, John Keith Schellack and JVan Schellack.
