Jo Ann (Black) Mallaney
Age 88 of Morris, died Wednesday, December 10th, 2025, in her home.
Jo Ann was born November 7, 1937 to Joseph and Lily Mae (Engh) Black. After the death of her mother when she was 3 she was raised by her aunt, Cora (Engh) Black. She graduated from Morris High School with the Class of 1955. She married Bernie Mallaney on March 9, 1959 and together they lived in Morris until his death in 2015.
Jo Ann had many jobs through the years, including waitressing at her father’s bar, Black’s Tavern, The Seven Gables, Humiston Keeling, Morris Hospital, Morris Paper Mill and Illinois Valley Sheltered Workshop’s Narvick House, her favorite.
She is the beloved mother of Joseph and Kathleen "Kay", both of Morris, and John of Streator; and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Jo Ann was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers Richard "Dick" and Jack.
Per Jo Ann's wishes, cremation rites are being accorded, and a private interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Seneca, where she will be laid to rest with her husband, Bernie.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Jo Ann's memory to the charity of the donor's choosing.
