Jo Ann Fleming

Jo Ann Whittington Fleming, 78, of Liberty, MS went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 20, 2025 at home with her children by her side. She was born on September 14, 1946 to O.C. & Helen Reeves Whittington of Liberty. Jo Ann married James Fleming in 1976. She was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church where she was involved in many aspects while raising their 5 children in church. Her number one task was to take the best care of her husband and children. Jo Ann worked in various offices and positions throughout her life including a power plant, Liberty Insurance Agency, US Metal Works and also as a secretary for several different attorneys through the years. After her children were raised, she completed the Southwest Mississippi Community College Cosmetology Program in 2001. She enjoyed this new profession and worked in a salon and nursing home styling hair for several years. Her hobbies included collecting glassware and other vintage finds. She always loved gardening, flowers and canning but most importantly cooking to feed her large family. She had a "green thumb" and loved to share and talk about plants with others. Jo Ann is preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 48 years, James Fleming. Those left to cherish her memory are her 5 children and their spouses: David & Tracy Oglesby, Jeanne O. & Tim Wroten, Jane O. & Hugh Laird, Joel & Katie Fleming, and Jonathan & Angel Fleming. She was Mimi to 13 grandchildren: Haleigh W. & Ryan Cowart, Eric & Haley Swarts, Elizabeth O. & Bobby Buntyn, Chance Wroten, Mary Katherine Oglesby, Eli & Kaylan Swarts, Dakotah F. & Sean Roe, Todd Partridge, Kyla Fleming, Jyles Fleming, Liza Jane Laird, Riley Fleming, and Charleigh Kate Fleming; 10 great-grandchildren: Branch, Oakleigh, Brazos & Loxleigh Cowart, Grant & Sawyer Swarts, Charlotte, Samuel, & Ella Swarts, and Nash Roe. She has three surviving siblings: Maurine & Malcolm Wicker, Sharon & Michael Wicker, & Leo Whittington, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Special thanks to her caregiver Susan Graves, and Deaconess Hospice nurses, Virginia and Jackie. Visitation is Monday, June 23, 2025 at Brown Funeral Home in Liberty, MS from 11 am until 1 pm. Funeral Services are 1:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Jacobs Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Chance Wroten, Eric Swarts, Eli Swarts, Jyles Fleming, Sean Roe, Ryan Cowart, Branch Cowart.
