In Loving Memory of

Jo Ellen Shanahan Gray

Jo was born in Dallas, Texas on February 5th, 1936 to parents Lois and Manly Shanahan, and resided in Fairview, Texas at her passing on October 8th, 2025. She was 89 years old when her earthly body wore out and God called her to Heaven to be with Him. Jo earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Baylor University in Religion, with a minor in English and concentration in piano in 1957.

While in Waco, she met Veo Gray, the great love of her life. She also held public teaching credentials in both Texas and Florida, a Texas Real Estate Broker license, an interior design certification, and was a National Merit Finalist. She was known at various times as an accomplished school teacher, piano teacher and accompanist, Bible teacher, writer, editor, home designer, wife, mother, friend, counselor, and dog lover. She was also known for her vocabulary, humor, wisdom, and Irish stubbornness. Though a long-time Southern Baptist, her church affiliation was Anglican for the last several years.

She leaves behind her brother, Jim Shanahan, sister, Lois Shanahan Jameson, son, Gary Gray, six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, many in-laws and extended family whom she loved dearly, and best friend, Dode Worsham. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Veo Gray, daughter, Gera Gray Shoemaker, son, Garland Gray, brother, Ralph Shanahan, and several extended family members.

There are no public services or events planned, only a private memorial per her wishes. She will be buried with Veo at Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery.
