Jo Anne Corbet loved life – especially animals, sports, lakes, cousins, and friends.
Her life will be celebrated at Combest Family Funeral Home’s Memorial Chapel in Lubbock on Friday, October 24, 2025, with visitation from 1 to 2 PM. Services will follow at 2 PM. Burial will be in the Tahoka Cemetery following services under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Home.
Jo Anne was born April 4, 1934, to Clay and Hazel (Connolly) Bennett. She died on October 17, 2025, at the age of 91.
As the ultimate chef and entertainer, Jo Anne loved nothing more than having a shindig for a group of people to watch a game, cook out, swim, or just play a game of cards.
She grew up in Tahoka, Texas, and graduated from Tahoka High School in 1951. She attended Baylor University then graduated from McNeese University in Lake Charles, Louisiana, she also attended Texas Tech University. She taught English in DeRidder, Louisiana, before moving to Lubbock. For many years, she taught honors English at Monterey High School and served as cheerleader sponsor. After retiring from Monterey, she was a supervisor for many student teachers at Texas Tech. She also served as an editor at Word Publications.
Jo Anne was an active member of many groups, especially the Lubbock/South Plains Retired Teachers Association and The Study Club. She was a Baptist. She was a loyal member of the Wednesday Lunch Group, all retired teacher friends.
She leaves behind three fur babies, Clifford, Tina, and Frankie. She is survived by many she considered family – cousins, a host of friends, and hundreds of former students.
The Jo Anne Corbet Memorial Scholarship has been set up to benefit high school graduating seniors in Lubbock at CFWTX.org.
