Charles Fake Obituary

Reverend Charles Forest Fake passed away peacefully at home on October 18th, 2025 at the age of 94. He was born in Houston, Texas on September 24th, 1931 to Charles Clinton Fake and Jessie Lowe Fake Heim. He grew up in Houston before attending college in Waco, where he met his wife Wanda (Sadler) Fake on the bus between Groesbeck and Baylor University. They married in 1953. After living in various places in Texas, they settled in Rockport in 1964 where they continued to raise their growing family.

Charles earned a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Baylor University. Over a lifetime of dedicated service, he served as pastor at seven Baptist churches, and as interim pastor at another three after his retirement. He also was an active committee member and officer of many religious and charitable organizations. Since giving his first sermon at age 17, he faithfully preached, led music, and served congregations for 72 years. He was named Pastor Emeritus for his many years of service at First Baptist Church of Rockport and at Bethel Baptist Church in Ingleside.

Over his life, Charles was deeply beloved for his soft-spoken, compassionate manner. He conducted hundreds of weddings and funerals, guided thousands as their pastor, and spent countless hours supporting and caring for his family, church family, friends, and community.

Charles had incredibly varied interests, including fishing, amateur radio, and computers. He was fascinated by science and the natural world. Blessed with a beautiful voice, he loved to sing and listen to music. He kept a blog, “It’s On My Mind,” for 15 years and wrote over 5,000 posts covering religion, memories of family and friends, and other thoughts that can be read at www.charlesfake.com.

Charles is preceded in death by his wife Wanda, sister Melva Keil, brother Jimmy Heim, sons David Fake and Dan Fake, and daughter Debbie Hamm. He is survived by his daughter Dianna (Mark) Hinze, son Dwight Fake, sisters Elva Underwood, Mary Sanders, Brenda Jones, brother Joe Heim, Jr., nine grandchildren, four (soon to be five) great-grandchildren, and numerous loving family members and friends.

Services will be held at First Baptist Church of Rockport on Saturday, Nov. 1st at 2:00 pm. There will be a visitation at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Rockport on Oct. 31st from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Interment will be at the Ferguson Cemetery in Oletha on Nov. 2nd at 1:30 pm.
