Jo Ann S. Oakman, 84, a resident of Peachtree Corners, GA since 2018, formerly of Huntingdon, passed away Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Village Park in Peachtree Corners. Born May 13, 1941 in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Grant Shuart and Kathryn Dorothea (Specht) Shuart. She was united in marriage to Dr. Donald Meade Oakman on June 9, 1962, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, McKees Rocks, PA. Dr. Oakman preceded her in death on January 8, 2018.

She is survived by her children, Donald M. Oakman, Jr. and wife, Robin, of Altoona, Jill R. Oakman of Peachtree Corners, GA, and Jeffrey J. Oakman and wife, Karen, of Winter Garden, FL; five grandchildren, JoyAnn Oakman, Jeffrey Oakman II, Jonathan Oakman, Nicholas Krohmer and Garrett Krohmer; and a great-grandson, Ares Barra. Also surviving are two sisters, Cheryl Henderson and husband, John, of Sewickley and Sandra Hayden and husband, Richard, of Pittsburgh; and a niece, Noreen Hunter and husband, Robert, of Harrisburg; as well as, beloved grand nieces, nephews, and cousins across Pennsylvania.

For over 50 years of her adult life, Jo Ann was an active member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Huntingdon. After moving to Georgia in 2018, she became an active member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Peachtree Corners, GA, and shared her time and talent as part of the Crafty Ladies Group, focusing on creating crafting and quilting items to be sold at church events, with proceeds benefiting local charities

She worked as an administrative assistant in the research department of Dravo Corporation near Pittsburgh until her marriage, and then spent many years working as the office manager of her husband's dental practice in Huntingdon.

Jo Ann was an active and competitive golfer for many years as a member of the Huntingdon Country Club; winning three club championships. She continued to enjoy golfing recreationally after her competitive years, including with her daughter and grandsons when she moved to Georgia.

In earlier years when her children were at home, she enjoyed expressing her creativity through sewing, cross-stitching, and quilting, always sharing her extraordinary artwork with family, friends, and the community. Throughout her entire life, Jo Ann was also very passionate about music and dancing. She played piano and began dance lessons in childhood, played percussion in the school band, and was active in school plays. From the time she met her husband, and throughout their 55 years of marriage they enjoyed countless nights out dancing and listening to live music. She always poured her heart into playing piano for family and friends. When she moved to Peachtree Corners, she continued sharing her love of music with everyone in her senior living community, and her beautiful artistic abilities of both piano and dance stayed with her to the end.

She was the life of the happy hour events every week, with friends and staff coming just to watch her dance.

Jo Ann will be remembered as the kindest, sweetest soul, first to befriend everyone and forever loyal, with her unforgettable smile and laugh.

Friends will be received from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, 417 Washington St., Huntingdon. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, October 6, 2025, at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, 525 Mifflin St., Huntingdon, with the Reverend Brandon Cian officiating. Interment will be in Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Walker Township, Huntingdon.
