Jo Ellen (Baranski) Toubman, age 68, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 12, 1956, in Cleveland, Ohio, Jo spent over 40 years in Florida, primarily in Volusia County, before recently returning to Ohio and settling in Strongsville.
She was a beloved sister, mother, aunt, cousin and grandmother to many, including Evelyn Mary Horacek, Dawn Truluck, Jerilyn (Ryan) Gantt, and Kara Toubman, along with a host of cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and daughter, Jerry and JoEllen Toubman.
Jo dedicated over 30 years of her life to a career in social work, driven by her deep compassion for others. Her work spanned a range of causes, from supporting children to advocating for the homeless.
To all who knew her, Jo was a mother figure-welcoming, nurturing, and endlessly generous. Whether it was her children's friends or complete strangers, her door was always open, her shoulder available to cry on, and her heart ready to listen.
Jo also had a profound love for animals, especially large-breed rescue dogs. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the animal rescue organizations listed below.
In retirement, Jo found joy in spending time with her youngest grandchildren, crocheting, and woodworking-embracing the simple pleasures she had long given to others.
A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor on June 14, 2025, at 2:00 PM, at LifePoint Community Church, 1747 W New York Ave., DeLand, FL 32720.
Donations can be made to the following organizations in Jo Ellen's name.
