Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brasco & Sons Memorial Chapels - Waltham on Mar. 7, 2025.
Joan Barrile, who would never let anyone privy to her age, passed away unexpectedly in her
home on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.
Daughter of the late David L. Thibodeau Sr. and Ann Frullo Thibodeau. Joan was born and raised in Waltham on October 11, and her Waltham roots ran deep.
Her best days were spent on a hot summer night in her favorite month, July, walking up and down Moody Street before catching a concert on The Common. She enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley's music, or any oldies, and her precious and meaningful song I Want to Walk You Home by Fats Domino. She loved to sit on her back porch with an iced coffee, cream, no sugar, or a cold soda and play a round of cards. She enjoyed getting her favorite meal from the Chateau a seafood platter and a baked potato. Joan loved a nice phone call, the ones where she could tell you every single story from her life experiences, for hours. She loved to talk and she loved anyone who listened.
Predeceased by her first husband, Salvatore Barrile Jr., "Mickey," and her longtime, loving partner, Leonard MacLellan, "Lenny," her beloved siblings; her twin sister Jeanne, her sister Jacqueline, and brothers David Jr., Robert, and Arthur.
One of Joan's greatest joys was becoming a mother. She raised her three children and made it her life mission to do right by them. She is survived by her loving children, Catherine Barreto of Providence, Rhode Island, her son Michael Barrile Sr and his wife Katherine (MacLean) Barrile of Newton, Massachusetts, and Leonard MacLellan "Little Lenny" and his wife Traci MacLellan of
Waltham, Massachusetts.
Her second greatest joy in life was becoming a grandmother and great-grandmother. Joan loved her grandchildren fiercely and dedicated her time to making lifelong memories with them. She is survived by her cherished grandchildren David, Michael, Scott, Michael Jr, Marissa, Ryan, and Alex. Her grandchildren in-laws Jessica, Ryan, Melanie, and Marissa. Her adoring great- grandchildren Hailey, Jacob, Aubrey, and Mikey. In addition, she is survived by her brothers Richard, Ronald, and Kenneth.
Joan is remembered for the person she was: loving, kind, and good-hearted. She gave to anyone in need. Often placing the needs of others before her own, she was the most selfless person. She gave back to her lifelong community, the south side of Waltham. A devout Catholic, a woman of great faith, and an active participant in her church at St. Mary Parish. To be loved by Joan was the greatest blessing.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to gather and remember the love and laughter Joan shared during visiting hours on Sunday, March 9th, from 1 PM until 3 PM in The Main Funeral Home of Brasco & Sons Memorial Chapels, located 773 Moody Street, WALTHAM.
For those who wish to pay their final respects to Joan and her family but are unable to attend, please be sure to sign the family's guestbook at www.BrascoFuneralhome.com. Parking attendants will be on duty.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held the next day, Monday, March 10th at 10 AM in St. Mary Parish, located 133 School Street, Waltham. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, located 250 High Street
Waltham, MA.
As an expression of sympathy, flowers are welcome.
