Joan Clowe, 93, of Marysville, Kansas, passed away on August 7, 2025, at the Frankfort Community Care Home.

A Celebration of Life service will be August 30th at 11:00 a.m., followed by lunch, at The Crossing Church in Marysville, KS.

Joan was born July 26, 1932, in Marysville, to Harry and Maude (Harrison) Maendele. She graduated from Marysville High School in 1951. On July 17, 1954, she married Ross Clowe in Marysville. The couple made their home there and raised three daughters.

Besides taking care of her family, Joan served as a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, a swim instructor, and a softball coach. Now and then, she would find time to sneak off with her friend and neighbor, Joyce Lord, to fish the Big Blue. Joan dedicated over 30 years as Office Manager for Drs. Laws, Argo, Ryan, and Brown at the Marysville Clinic. In retirement, she stayed active by selling real estate, helping in the Legion kitchen, managing the Thunderbird Motel, and volunteering at a Bible Camp in Montana. She was a longtime member of the Women's Legion Auxiliary and Women's Aglow. Joan believed in "Cleanliness is next to Godliness." If you had the privilege of knowing Joan, you understand! Her home and those she cleaned for would pass any inspection known to man.

Joan loved the Lord! Her morning routine was 5 a.m. coffee, recliner, Bible, Strongs Concordance, and talking with Jesus! (Mostly about her family!) On Sundays, you would find her faithfully attending The Crossing Church, teaching Sunday School, participating in pre-service prayer, worshipping the Lord, and soaking in the sermon. For years, Joan gathered with others for intercessory prayer meetings. She was blessed to see many answers to those prayers. Only second to Jesus was Family! Joan loved her family fiercely, spending countless hours praying for them and spending time with them. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren were truly a blessing to her. One of her favorite times was Mother's Day Flea Market weekend. She would load up the grandkids, and off they went to find who knows what!! Her eyes would light up at Christmas time, watching the grandkids open presents and play Bingo!

She is survived by her daughters, Jan Mullen (Richard) of Marysville, Penny Bieler (Gary) of Home, KS, and Jada Evans (David) of Columbia Falls, MT; seven grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ross, in 2003; a great-granddaughter, Emily Grace Rosebaugh; six brothers—Harry, Richard, John, Dee, Forrest, and Jerry Maendele; and three sisters—Norma Busch, Betty Oehm, and Mary Lucille Williams.

A memorial fund has been established to benefit The Crossing Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary, P.O. Box 147, Marysville, KS 66508.
