Joan DeFrancisco was born on November 21, 1951 and passed away on November 23, 2024 at Englewood Hospital in Englewood, New Jersey. She was 73 years old.
Known as Joanie to all, she lived in Hudson County most of her life. Born to parents Phyllis and Val DeFrancisco, Joanie was the second of 5 siblings. She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings Daniel, Maria, and Robert DeFrancisco.
Joanie is survived by her sister Carolyn Aimone, brother-in-law Edward, nephew Jeremy, and niece Sarah. She also leaves behind niece Daniella Garcia and husband Andy, and nephew Dino DeFrancisco.
Joanie is also survived by her dear friend Susan Torraco and family, plus many other close friends who played an important role in her life. She was a beloved member of the Union City English congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. These friends cared for Joanie in life whenever she needed help around the house, getting groceries, or providing a ride to appointments and meetings. Her loving friends also cared for Joanie as they gathered around her as she fell asleep in death. Joanie's family is moved by the love and support of friends in her congregation.
Joanie will be remembered for her light-hearted humor and generosity, always quick to laugh and always on the hunt for the perfect gift to say "thank you" or "just because." Joanie's faith kept her going with patience and humor as she fought cancer for three decades. She never wanted to know her prognosis - she simply wanted to keep going and try the next treatment to live another day. As a devoted Jehovah's Witness, Joanie's faith in the promise of a paradise earth guided her life decisions and outlook. Joanie will be missed by many.
"And as for you yourself, go toward the end, and you will rest, but you will stand up for your lot at the end of the days." Daniel 12:13, New World Translation.
A funeral talk will take place on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 1:30 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses: 1107 Bergenline Avenue, Union City, NJ 07087.
