Fitzgerald, Joan F. (Sampson), 88, of Marshfield and formerly of Quincy and Dorchester, December 10, 2022. Beloved wife of the late John F. Fitzgerald (Retired BPD). Cherished mother of John F. Fitzgerald Jr (Patricia) of Marshfield, Joan Conley Sheehan (John) of Marshfield, Jean Griffin (Bill) of Quincy, Judi Ann Gaine (Mike Reidy) of Quincy, Jane Marie Sullivan Vecchione (Paul) of Marshfield and the late James. Devoted grandmother to Kelly and Eve Fitzgerald, Kerri Ann, Kristi, Colleen, Karen and Richard Conley, Bill QPD, Leanne, Lisa and Jacqueline Griffin, Sean Fitzgerald QPD, Colleen and Anna Gaine, and Michael, Lea Marie and Joseph Sullivan. Loving great-grandmother to 20: Leila, Isla, Brendan, Conor, Maggie, Bridget, Spencer, Reed, Casey, Aisley, Cameron, Andrew, Julia, Jameson, Ryan, Brooke, Colin, Kayleigh, Caroline and Emery Kate. Loving sister of Barbara Bowers of Illinois, Larry Sampson of Quincy, Billy Sampson of Westminster, and many late siblings including Peggy Fitzgerald, Bob Sampson, and Roy Sampson.
Joan was born in South Boston. As a young adult, she lived in Dorchester and helped care for her siblings. Joan met John, the love of her life, and they were married on January 2, 1954 and had 6 lovely children. They loved traveling and spending time with their friends. Joan and John spent many wonderful summers vacationing in Marshfield with their children and then later with their grandchildren. Joan loved each of her many nieces and nephews as if they were her own. She enjoyed cooking big Sunday dinners and feeding a crowd. She never turned down an opportunity for dancing, while dressed in full heels and glittery jewelry, and having fun with those that she loved. She made everyone she knew feel special and part of the family. When her husband passed in 2015, Joan settled in Marshfield. She was truly an inspiration to all who were lucky enough to know her.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, December 16, 2022 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ann by the Sea Parish Church, 591 Ocean Street in Marshfield, followed by a Graveside Service and interment in the Couch Cemetery.
