Joan C. (Boschen) Goodwin, (Joanie) age 90, passed away peacefully at home on March 27, 2025, in the loving presence of her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Kenneth L. Goodwin Sr., (Ken) to whom she was married for 49 wonderful years, until Ken passed in 2006.
She was the daughter of the late James J. and Ethel (Foster) Boschen. She was born on November 26, 1934, in Boston. She graduated from Dover High School, Class of 1952. Her graduating class consisted of 5 people! While in high school she participated in many sports. Her favorite was playing on the girls' basketball team, all 5 feet of her! She often said, her children and grandchildren got their athletic abilities from her! Ken just loved hearing that!
She married her best friend and love of her life, Ken, on August 17, 1957. They made their home in Foxboro, raising 5 children. She worked as a bus driver for the Foxboro Public school system, eventually working her way up to become Director of Transportation. She was affectionately named Lady Fox, by her peer bus drivers! She took pride in making sure her, "Precious Cargo" (the children of Foxboro) were safely driven to and from school. She drove many of the Foxboro High school sports teams to their events. After letting the team off, she would park the bus, sit in the stands and cheer for the Warriors, no matter what sport it was!
She was also involved in bringing to fruition the Foxboro Midget Football program, for the kids in Foxboro. She was a cheerleading coach for her daughters, Nadine and Cheryl, and could be seen on the sidelines cheering on her sons, Kenny and John! She continued her involvement with the kids and joined in helping with the Foxboro Touchdown Club at the high school. She was the President of the club for over 30 years! While President, she formed a lasting friendship with Coach Jack Martinelli!
She also had a passion for singing. She joined the Serenading Seniors at the Foxboro Senior Center. She enjoyed seeing all her forever friends there. She loved singing for the kids in the schools. Her reward was seeing all the smiles on their faces and sometimes they would join in singing with them. She would not have it any other way!
She was inducted into the 1st Foxboro High School Hall of Fame class in 2023. She was so honored to be a part of this. She also received the Massachusetts Heroine Award in 2021, from State Senator Paul Feeney. Also, a service award from the Mass Teachers Association, for her dedication to the children of Foxboro.
Her second home through all these years was St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Foxboro. She often said she was put on this Earth to do God's work. She had the privilege, thanks to the church, to go on a few pilgrimages in her life. She and fellow parishioners got to march with Martin Luther King Jr. in Selma Alabama. She went to celebrate Easter in Russia, visited Jerusalem, the Holy Land. All the while spreading God's love and receiving it back from the people she met along the way. She gathered strength and love at St. Mark's church every Sunday, which helped her to spread Love, Peace, and Joy to others. And we all know she gave the best Hugs!
Her pride and joy, besides Ken, were her 5 children, 14 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren.
She is pre-deceased by her oldest daughter, Nadine Marie Spencer, survived by her daughter, Cheryl Suess and her husband Doug, sons, Kenneth Goodwin Jr. and his wife Donna, John Goodwin and his companion Cathy, and Lance Goodwin, and her son-in-law Bruce Spencer. Also survived by her sister, Linda Boschen. Pre-deceased by her sister, Virginia Horsch.
