Joan Gregory, 93, of Plainfield, Indiana, passed away peacefully January 27, 2024 with family at her side. She was born October 8, 1930 to the late Walter B and Nettie (Wells) Russell in Washington, Indiana. As a child, she and all her siblings were raised in the church. That tradition continued throughout her entire life. She was a member of the Avon Light and Life Methodist Church. After her marriage to Orville Gregory, they moved to Plainfield. She was a licensed beautician and worked in Broad Ripple at the House of Originals. Soon after the birth of her daughter, she left the beauty shop and went to work for Van Buren Elementary School as an aid and assistant to the principal for over twenty years. She retired from Van Buren to help care for her mother. Both Joan and her sister Shirley cared for their mother until she passed. Joan then went to work for K B Toys in Plainfield. She enjoyed working there because a lot of the students were now adults and would come into the store to visit her and buy toys for their children. She is survived by her son Larry Gregory; a brother, David Russell; two sisters, Shirley (Russell) Eagle and Nancy (Russell) Tandarich. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Nettie Russell; daughter, Beth Ann (Gregory) Emerson; Husband, Orville Wilson Gregory; brothers Maurice Russell; Marion Russell; Carl Russell; Walter Russell, Jr.; Francis (Frank) Russell; half brothers, Robert and Kenny Russell; half sister, Rosemary (Russell) Bye. Funeral Services will be on Monday, February 5, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, where friends may call from 11:00 am until service time at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield.
