Joan Hattey Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Joan Hattey, fondly known as "AJ" to her loving family, passed away peacefully at the age of 93, surrounded by loved ones. AJ was a fun, generous, and loving presence in the lives of all who knew her.

Born in Detroit in 1932 to Ray and Lena Hattey, AJ was a devoted daughter who lovingly cared for her mother throughout her lifetime. She shared a deep and lasting bond with her siblings: Eila Mary and Stanley Poniatowski, Fred and June Hattey, Robert and Nancy Hattey, and Ray and Joann Hattey.

Though she never married, AJ's heart was full with family. She was a devoted aunt to 17 nieces and nephews, 19 grandnieces and nephews, and three great-great-nephews. She also cherished her many "Hatty without the e" cousins and made every effort to attend family gatherings. AJ's generosity and kindness touched not only her family but also her neighbors and friends-most notably through her selfless act of offering her home to a friend in need and her many donations to charitable causes.

AJ lived a life of joy, adventure, and tradition. Her best years without a doubt were spent with Ed Hughes, her one true love. She loved traveling with her sister-in-law, Nancy, as well as taking shopping trips with her sister Mary and visiting family in California and Florida-beloved rituals she treasured. A true lover of food, AJ delighted in visiting local restaurants. Her family will forever remember her Christmas baklava and the famous Hattey/Hatty family picnic kibbie.

She leaves behind countless cousins, extended family members, and friends who will deeply miss her warmth, humor, and generosity. Her memory will live on in the stories, traditions, and love she shared with all.

AJ will be sorely missed but joyfully remembered with Visitation 1pm - 8pm, 7pm Rosary, Friday, September 19, 2025 at Chas. Verheyden Inc. -Duross Chapel, 28499 Schoenherr Rd., Warren, Michigan 48088 and she will lie Instate 9am Saturday, September 20, 2025 until time of Mass, 10am at St. Sharbel Maronite Catholic Church, 43888 Hayes, Clinton Township, MichIgan 48038.
