Joan Jamison Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory on Feb. 26, 2026.
Joan Marie Jamison, 86, of Anderson, Indiana went home to be with the Lord, after a brief illness on February 24, 2026. She was born on January 15, 1940, in Champaign, Illinois. Joan resided most of her life in Anderson and graduated from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana She retired as a medical technologist from St John's Hospital now known as St Vincent (Anderson) Hospital, dedicating many years of her life supporting patients and colleagues with skill and compassion.

She loved going to Quilt shows, was a member of the American Quilter's Society, the Spring Valley Quilt Guild, the Indiana State Quilt Guild, and the Purdue Extension Homemakers. She especially loved attending the annual Indiana State Quilt Guild retreat in Shipshewana, Indiana and Paducah Quilt Week in Paducah, Kentucky. She was a regular attendee of a monthly Knitting Group as well. Quilting, sewing, and knitting brought her great joy and fulfillment.

She was active in charitable organizations including Loving Hands, who made baby quilts for the Anderson Indiana St. Vincent Hospital. She sewed bags, which would then be used as totes and purses for the Battered Women's Shelter to provide for women who were victims of abuse, and then filled them with personal items before donating them. Joan was a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan, watching games alongside her family and cheering

their team on. Additionally, she was fan of the Cincinnati Reds and major league baseball, visiting multiple stadiums with family across the United States. She also enjoyed visiting many zoos as well. And, she loved her cats over all of the years, and her current kitty Simba, who she held close to her heart. Later in life she began birding and enjoyed watching, feeding and identifying birds at the feeder. She cherished gathering with her friends, sharing meals, celebrating birthdays, holidays, and life.

She was an avid camper sharing many camping trips, hiking, sitting around the camp fire, and participating and watching the family play highly competitive wiffle ball games. Spending time with family and sharing in their love and joy was one of her greatest pastimes. She was a parishioner of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Anderson, Indiana. And, Joan will be most remembered for her dedication to family, service to others, and a generous spirit that

touched many lives along her journey.

Joan is survived by her children, Linda (David) Carpenter of Indianapolis, Diane (James) Pursley of Anderson, Ron (Kathy) Jamison of Prosper, TX, Don (Tara) Jamison of Port Charlotte, FL, and 13 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Herbert & Edna Altherr (Maiden name Laudeman), Brothers Richard Altherr (Rosie), Ronald Altherr (Gwen).

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, 10:30-12:30 pm at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 2805 Lincoln St., Anderson, IN.
