Joan Kemp Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Melson Funeral Services - Ocean View Chapel on Dec. 26, 2024.
Joan Carroll Kemp
Joan Carroll (Domino) Kemp, age 88, of Ocean View, DE, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.
Joan was born on July 27, 1936 in New Orleans, LA to parents Salvadore and Wilda Domino. Joan met the love of her life, Joseph M. Kemp, while her family was stationed in Germany. They were married on September 4, 1954 in Fort Devens, MA. Together they raised five children in the Washington, DC area. After raising her children, Joan worked at Catholic University, University of Maryland, and DeMatha High School. Following her retirement, Joan and her husband moved to Bethany Beach, DE, where she attended St. Ann's Catholic Church for more than 30 years and, for many years, enjoyed volunteering at a charitable thrift shop and teaching adults to read.
Joan was a gifted writer and enjoyed being near the ocean, playing the piano, puzzles, and games of any kind. She was a beautiful role model for her family, teaching them by her example to put God and family above all else, to keep a sense of humor, to give generously, and to do the right thing no matter the cost.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph (Joe), and youngest son, Robert (Bob). Joan is survived by her other four children: Stephen (Pam) Kemp, Joseph Kemp, Michael (Wanda) Kemp, and Catherine Kemp. Joan is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Melson's Funeral Home from 5-7pm on Thursday, January 2, 2025 (38040 Muddy Neck Rd., Ocean View, DE 19970). Visitation will also be held on Friday, January 3, 2025 from 10-11am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Frankford, DE. A funeral Mass will follow at 11am. Joan will then be interred with her beloved husband, Joe, at the Veterans Cemetery in Millsboro, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Joan's favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, in her name (501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or https://www.stjude.org).
