Joan Frances Burdette Langfitt was born December 4, 1942 in Akron, OH to Corrine and Neal McCay. She lived in Parkersburg most of her life and graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1960 and Glenville State College in 1962. Joan worked at Ames as an executive secretary. She was active at First Baptist Church of Parkersburg and helped with some administrative duties. Joan married Billy Lee Burdette and had two sons, Michael and Christopher. After being a full-time mom to her boys, she went to work at the Wood County Board of Education in 1980 as an assistant to the superintendent and main receptionist/switchboard operator where she greeted everyone with her warm smile and kind words.
In 1999, she moved to Pawleys Island, SC and lived there until 2018. She then moved back to Parkersburg to be with her family.
She loved golfing, reading, tennis, bowling, calligraphy and spending time with her many great friends and family. Joan volunteered and served on local boards such as the Wood County Health Department and Secret Santa for local children. She also loved spending time with her grandsons, Jake and Josh, and shopping with her daughter-in-law, Kristi. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2018. She managed to live an elegant life for several years and battled like a true hero.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her brother, Charles N. McCay.
