Joan Murphy

Joan (Leuty) Murphy, 77, of Parsons, passed away at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at home surrounded by her loving family. She had battled cancer and its side effects for a year.
Barbara Joan Leuty was born January 7, 1947, at Chetopa, to Leroy E. and Pauline (Finley) Leuty. She lived with her family in Chetopa until they moved to Parsons when she was 13 years old. She attended East Junior High School and graduated from Parsons High School in 1965. She attended Labette Community College one year.
On September 21, 1964 she and Patrick Lee Murphy Sr. were married at the former Evangelical United Brethren Church in Parsons. Pat survives of the home.
As a young girl Joan worked at Richard's Drive Inn. Later she worked briefly at Swift and Co, Parsons State Hospital and Training Center, Adventure Line Mfg and EFC Farm Store.
She was a member of the Fredonia congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Besides her husband, Pat, she is survived by a daughter, Mandi LeAnn Lever of Parsons; three grandchildren, Alyssa Lever, Logan Lever and Jordan Murphy; two great-grandchildren, Bentley and Spencer; a brother, William Leroy Leuty of Erie. She was preceded in death by two sons, Patrick Murphy, Jr. and infant Jody Lynn Murphy, a brother, Melvin Dean Leuty and sisters, Patti Wallis, Betty Platter, Mary Kress, and Gena Tastove.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 15, 2024 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Fredonia.
