Joan Marie Ruttan, age 91, beloved mother, sister, and faithful servant of God, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on October 25, 1933, in Detroit, Michigan, she was the cherished daughter of Anna and Elmer Barror.
A devoted member of Saint Anastasia Catholic Church, Joan served her parish community with deep commitment and grace. She was a Eucharistic minister, lector coordinator, and faithfully assisted behind the scenes by helping count collections each week. Her steadfast dedication and quiet leadership were a blessing to all who worshiped alongside her.
Joan lived a life of service as both a nurse and a teacher-professions through which she touched countless lives with her compassion, wisdom, and strength. She carried that same love into her personal life, where she delighted in the warmth of her family and the comfort of her home. Joan also enjoyed watching football and golf, pastimes that brought her both joy and relaxation over the years.
She is survived by her devoted son, David Ruttan; her loving siblings, Mel Barror and Sister Lois Barror; and many dear nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings Margaret Yaroch, Betty Grinke, and Allen Barror.
Joan's enduring faith, loving spirit, and generous heart will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to St. Anastasia Catholic Church in her honor.
Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, May 15, 2025, at 11AM at St. Anastasia Catholic Church, 4571 John R Road, Troy. Visitation at church begins at 10:30AM. A private cremation ceremony was previously held.
May she rest in the eternal peace of God's embrace.
