Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service - ManchesterJoan Carol Ward, age 92, of Georgetown, Texas, and formerly of Lamont, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Tiffin House in Georgetown. Graveside services and burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Grant View Cemetery in Greeley, Iowa, with Mike Jackson officiating. There will be no visitation conducted. Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Manchester is assisting the family.
Joan Carol was born on December 14, 1932, in Oneida, Delaware County, Iowa, the daughter of Leon Elmer and Nettie Bessie Scovel. She graduated from Lamont High School in 1950. Joan Carol worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C.; upon returning to Iowa, she was employed as Reservations Supervisor for Braniff International Airways in Waterloo-Cedar Falls, Airport. While working there she met Robert Glen Ward; they were married in the Methodist Church in Lamont. To this union two children were born, Joni Carol and Mark Andrew.
Joan Carol and Bob moved to California, living there for many years. During this time, Bob graduated from Western State University and College of Law in 1976, and Joan Carol graduated from Cypress College in 1979. They then moved to Arizona where they resided for twenty years. Joan Carol was elected Mohave County Supervisor, District II, and served in that position four years and was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. Joan Carol and Bob were married for 46 years. Together they enjoyed traveling, camping, bowling, reading, home building, and home improvement. She loved archaeology and was an armchair enthusiast, watching old movies and spending time with her family. Joan Carol will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include a daughter, Joni (Douglas) Elmore of Georgetown, Texas and a son, Mark (Christine) Ward of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren, Katherine Elmore, Emerson (Russell) Frankston, Andrew Ward, Alexander (Jordan) Ward and Kellie (Steven) Hering; eight great-grandchildren, MacKenzie and Ramona; Eleanor, Margaret, Bennett; Jameson; Hayes and Parker; and a brother, Larry Scovel of Bloomington, IL.
Joan Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; a brother, Neal Scovel and her sister, Joyce Scovel King.
Joan Carol and Bob’s legacy to their family was a love of learning and love for each other.
