Joan Regina Yazel

It is with faith in eternal life that we announce the passing of Joan Regina Yazel on October 9, 2025.
Joan was born on March 22, 1929, in Marion, Ohio, to Clyde and Freda Smith. In 1958, Joan was united in marriage to the love of her life, Eugene Yazel, who preceded her in death. Together they built a wonderful life filled with love and a deep dedication to faith, family, and community.
Joan possessed a lifelong love of learning, which led her to earn a teaching degree from Bowling Green State University. Her teaching career began at Claridon Elementary School and continued with Marion City Schools, where she touched countless young lives before her retirement.
A woman of faith, warmth, kindness and gentle spirit, Joan will be fondly remembered by the many friends she made throughout her years of teaching, her dedication to Trinity Babtist Church and by her dear friends at Willow Brook at Delaware Run. Above all, she cherished time spent with her beloved family-especially her seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters Leona Dunkin and Alice Russell, and brother Charles Smith.
Joan is survived by her three loving daughters: Jill Kovacs, Kathy Yazel, and Laura (Jeff) Buroker, along with many nieces and nephews who will hold her memory close to their hearts.
Family and friends are invited to calling hour on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at The Chapel at Willow Brook at Delaware Run, 100 Delaware Run Road, Delaware, Ohio.
Joan will be laid to rest in the peace of Christ at Marion Cemetery, Marion, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Willow Brook Assisted Living Activity Fund.
