JoAnn Atwood Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Spurlin Funeral Home - Stanford on Jul. 8, 2025.
JoAnn H. Atwood, 75, of Stanford, KY passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025 at Stanford Crossing. Born on March 7, 1950 in Brunswick, MD to the late Leonard and EstaMae Henderson Hamilton. She is the widow to the late Jerry Atwood, to whom she was married for 44 years.
JoAnn was a woman of many talents, a true Renaissance woman. Her professional life was dedicated to healthcare in which she helped provided care and comfort to countless individuals. Her service to others extended beyond her profession, as she was a Vietnam War Era Navy Veteran, an accomplishment she wore with immense pride. JoAnn's legacy of service was mirrored in her family, with her late husband, Jerry Atwood, and both of their sons, Jay and Will Atwood, having served in the U.S. Navy. In her free time, JoAnn was an avid wood carver, Bible reader, and enjoyed crocheting. She was also a member of the ROC Martial Arts Academy as a karate student at the age of 70. JoAnn was a devout Christian and a member of Grace Fellowship Church.
Survivors include two sons, Jay Atwood (Jennifer) of Lexington, KY and Will Atwood (Kate) of Lexington, KY; two granddaughters, Grace Atwood and Lucy Atwood; three siblings, William Buddy Hamilton, Linden Lee Hamilton and Norma Crouse, all of central Maryland; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and EstaMae Hamilton.
In accordance with her wishes, no formal services will be held. To honor her memory, the family kindly suggests memorial donations to either the Lincoln Senior Citizen Center, 100 Senior Way, Stanford, KY 40484, or Ft. Logan Cooperative Ministries, P.O. Box 112, Stanford, KY 40484. Please note "In Memory of JoAnn Atwood" with your contribution.
