Dolores Joan Dubats, 88, known as Joann, passed away September 14, 2024. She was born November 30, 1935, in Pontiac, Michigan, to the late Raymond and Lillian (Hayward) Chatfield.
Joann came to Sarasota in 1987 from Rochester, Michigan. Joann was a pioneer, having her own business painting portraits, and as a retoucher, enhancing photograph through their negatives. She retouched notable people including the Miss America contestants.
Joann was intelligent, had a quick wit and a marvelous sense of humor. She loved her family, her lake home and her garden. She adored animals, and especially enjoyed feeding the water birds every morning by the lake. Joann also loved the arts, painting, playing piano, Ringling Museum, Selby Gardens, the beach and everything related to arts and nature.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Sandra Shearer and her husband Rick; Gerald Dubats; Sally Dubats and her partner Chuck Powers; Carrie Graber and her husband David; Adam Dubats; daughter-in-law Lois Dubats; grandchildren Lee, Danny, Trevor, Kristie and her husband Steve, Kayla, Emily, Ava, Luke and Weston; great grandchildren Jordon, Reese, Easton, Leighton, Wylie and Cole.
In addition to her parents, Joann was preceded in death by her husband Gerald; son Gregory; granddaughter Sarah; and brothers Gary and David.
There will be a private memorial service for family and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Sarasota County online at www.hssc.org. Memories and condolences may be left for the family at www.MFHcares.com.
