JoAnn Jimmerson Jonas May 2, 1937 – August 19, 2025

Jo Ann Jimmerson Jonas passed away at the age of 88 on Aug 19, 2025.

She was born on May 2, 1937 in Houston, TX to Mildred and Alvin R. Jimmerson. She lived in Alvin, TX with her parents and brother, Alvin R. Jimmerson Jr. from 1942-1947. Jo Ann graduated from Crockett High School, Crockett, TX and graduated from University of Texas in Austin, TX with a degree in Elementary Education. She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. She received her Maters of Education from Texas A&I University (now known as Texas A&M, Kingsville). She married Allen Ray Jonas in 1959 and they had two daughters, Lorrie and Karen. She taught in Houston ISD, several school districts in South Texas and finished a 37 year career in education with the Clear Creek ISD, the last 15 years as their Special Education Coordinator. She and Allen moved to Alvin in 2010.

Jo Ann was active in many organizations over the years, Alice Music Club (pres), Tri-County Retired Teachers (pres), Orange Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church (Rebecca Circle and Altar Guild), Alvin First United Church (Friendship Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women (UMW). Jo Ann was also a charter member of the Bluebonnet Branch Chapter of Daughters of the Republic of Texas; and member of several bridge clubs. She also loved playing golf, water skiing, and snorkeling in the Caribbean. She and Allen enjoyed traveling especially the cruise with their children and their families for their 50th Anniversary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Al Jimmerson, and grandson Kyle Adams. She is survived by her husband of 65 years Allen Ray Jonas, daughter Lorrie Ann Gardner Tagg (Frank) of Gerrardstown, WV, and Karen Sue Adams (Kenneth) of Santa Fe, TX, grandson Max Gardner (Erin) and granddaughter Kellye Adams Jackson (Stuart), great grandchildren Killian and Josephine Jackson, and step grandchildren Jared and Mandi Adams and Chad and Chip Tagg, nephew James Jimmerson (Wendy) and niece Amy Gehm and their children.

Visitation will be at 10:00 am and services will be at 11:00 Saturday Aug 23, 2025 at the Alvin Methodist Church, Alvin, TX.
