It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joanne Mohammed, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Joanne was born in 1947 in Coy, Alabama, to the late Mariah Charley and Sampson Perryman. She was raised in Brighton, Alabama, and later attended Brighton High School, where she was a proud graduate of the Class of 1965.
During her early years, Joanne met Willie E. Smith, and together they welcomed two children, Yvonne and Tyrone Smith, who became the center of her world.
She later moved to Boston, Massachusetts, where she began a career in healthcare, working at University Hospital and several other medical centers in the area. Her dedication and compassion led her to Brigham and Women's Hospital, where she built a lasting career, becoming a valued employee and retiring after 30 years of service.
In 1985, Joanne found love and partnership with Abdush (Robert) Mohammed, with whom she shared 46 wonderful years of marriage. Their love was a testament to commitment and companionship, and they built a life full of warmth and happiness together.
Joanne had a zest for life that was evident in her favorite pastimes. She found joy in dancing, especially to her favorite song, "Blurred Lines" by Robin Thicke. The rhythm and energy of the music resonated with her vibrant spirit. Joanne also enjoyed testing her luck at the slot machines during visits to Foxwoods Resort Casino, where she often celebrated significant wins, relishing the excitement and thrill of the games. Above all, she cherished moments spent with her family, finding true happiness in their company and the love they shared.
Joanne leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory. She is survived by her devoted husband, Abdush (Robert) Mohammed; her two beloved children, Yvonne and Tyrone Smith; her dear daughter-in-law, Marline Walker; her seven cherished grandchildren: Tanisha, Tyrell, Marcus, Brandon, Diondre, Anthony, and Monasja; and her three precious great-grandchildren, Camell, Keloni, and Havana Smith.
Joanne was a loving sister to her seven siblings: Cinthia, Margie, Tina, Nita, Sandra, Joe, and Darell. She was deeply loved by a host of extended family members and dear friends.
Joanne was a woman of strength, kindness, and dedication. Her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love for her family will remain a guiding light for those she leaves behind. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit and love will live on forever.
