Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rouse Mortuary Service & Crematory on Oct. 27, 2025.
Joann Hardy Quick, embarked on her final journey on October 21, 2025, leaving a trail of joy and kindness behind her. Born on September 27, 1955, in Portsmouth, VA, Joann's zest for life never dimmed throughout her 70 years. She passed away peacefully in
Greenville, NC, after a brave dance with cancer that, while it may have taken her from this stage, could never dim the light she shone on all who knew her.
Joann had a love for the simple pleasures in life. She could often be found journaling her thoughts, which ranged from the profound to the hilariously mundane, or glued to the TV, shouting answers at Jeopardy contestants with the confidence of a five-time champion. Her glass of Pepsi wasn't just a beverage; it was her trusty sidekick, always by her side.
Before moving to Rodanthe, NC, Joann was a caregiver extraordinaire. Her parents, Graham H. and Mary (Betty) Vaughan, were the lucky recipients of her boundless care. Her love extended to her grandson, Shane Vaughan, whom she helped raise with the same generosity and humor that she bestowed upon all her family and friends.
Speaking of family, Joann was a mother and grandmother. Her daughters Nichole M. Quick and Michelle D. Quick; her grandchildren Shane M. Vaughan, Kaylee N. Quick, Noelle G. Irvin, Nathan A. Clevenger, Alexis M. Yates, Arianna L. Bice and Jayden W. Rawlins; her sister and brother-in-law, Sara and Frank Tretola; her brother and sister-in-law Douglas and Barbara Vaughan; and numerous nieces and nephews, all played roles in her life's comedy-drama. She was predeceased in death by her parents, Graham H. and Mary (Betty) Vaughan and brother David L. Vaughan, who no doubt are enjoying her company once again.
Joann's Christian faith was as much a part of her as her quick wit and her willingness to lend a hand or an ear. She lived out her beliefs through her actions, never missing a chance to spread love and laughter. She cherished her friendship with George Midgett who welcomed her into his home after the passing of her parents. She was also blessed to have a continued lifelong friendship with Margaret Fly Morgan who she considered family. She also made many friends in Rodanthe, NC who will miss her dearly.
To say Joann was kind, friendly and generous is like saying the ocean is a bit wet. She had a knack for turning strangers into friends and friends into family. Her generosity knew no bounds, and her kindness was the kind that could defuse any tense situation with a well-timed joke or a reassuring smile.
As we bid farewell to Joann, let us remember the lessons she imparted through her life; enjoy the little things, to care deeply for those around us, and to always keep our sense of humor, no matter what life throws our way. Joann Hardy Quick, you were a one-of-a-kind masterpiece, and the world is a bit less bright without you. Curtain call, dear Joann, take your bow, for you've played the role of a lifetime splendid.
Per her wishes, no services will be held and burial will be private.
